Aer Lingus ceases operations after 25 years.

After many years of operation Aer Lingus ceases operations from Cork to Amsterdam.

25 years are coming to an end.

Since 1998, Aer Lingus has operated flights between Cork Airport (ORK) and Amsterdam Airport Schiphol (AMS). It is one of the longest-running airline routes from Cork. In recent years, Aer Lingus has operated one or two flights per week between the two cities.

Recently, Aer Lingus and Cork Airport announced that the airline will cease services between Cork and Amsterdam. From 17 March 2025, St Patrick's Day, the route will be discontinued. In a statement, Cork Airport commented on its history with the airline and what this announcement means for those flying from the airport:

"We would like to thank Aer Lingus for 26 years of continuous service on this route. In the meantime, direct connectivity to Amsterdam Schiphol will be maintained with KLM Royal Dutch Airlines offering twice daily services to Amsterdam, with the possibility of further connecting to over 150 destinations."

Cork Flyers, they won't keep you waiting.

The Amsterdam route is the third busiest from Cork. Since the pandemic, passenger numbers between the two cities have increased. In 2019, there were about just under 160,000 passengers taking the route. In 2022, that number jumped to 169,000 passengers. Then, in 2023, the number jumped again, this time to 208,000 passengers.

Despite these numbers, Aer Lingus remains committed to its decision to cancel the route.

In a statement, the airline commented:

"This decision has been made following a careful review of our route network and in response to changing travel needs. Aer Lingus remains deeply committed to Cork and our valued customers in the South of Ireland."
